Bulgaria was a member with the Schengen Agreement but have not however completely applied they. For EU and EFTA (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway) citizens, combined with that from Switzerland, an officially recommended ID card (or a passport) is enough for admission. In no situation will needed a visa for a stay of any length. Other people will normally require a passport for admission.

Travel to/from some other country (Schengen or otherwise not) from/to Bulgaria will (currently) cause the standard immigration inspections, but travelling to/from another EU nation you simply will not have to go customs. Read more
